About David Petersen
David Petersen is an exercise physiologist, corrective exercise specialist and Licensed Massage Therapist and the owner of the Body Tuneup Shop. He received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with additional majors in Biochemistry, Physiology and from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He also received a post-graduate degree in Sports Medicine from the prestigious Sport Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA) at the University of Cape Town as a final phase exercise rehabilitation specialist known as a "Biokineticist".
At the Institute, Professor Tim Noakes MD DSc - world renown exercise scientists and sports physician, was David's mentor . They worked closely together and he encouraged his students to "think outside the box" and to question the existing theories in physiology and exercise science. David was frustrated with the traditional forms of therapy he was witnessing being used in rehabilitation and was even more frustrated that he was using the same techniques himself. He wanted to find out the cause of human dysfunction. He realized that the traditional therapies he has been tought simply treated the symptom.
In 2006 he was exposed to a muscle activation technique through a South African physical therapist. The results of the technique were incredible – so David researched them further and obtained his Massage Therapy credential. He was fascinated that points on the body could be manipulated and dramatically improve muscle strength and flexibility. He experimented with acupressure and found it to be even more effective than the original Applied Kinesiology he first learned. Over many years of practicing the technique, he came up with a system of treatment calling it "MyoTonix" as it was a way of adjusting muscle tone.
In addition to helping hundred of regular people to have more functional, healthier bodies, David has worked with athletes from the MLB, NFL, , PGA and AVP. David has a particular interest in working with golfers since in his words "is an event that at every level challenges the boundaries of human movement and function." He has worked with PGA Tour players Mark Calcavecchia, Brian Gay and instructors David Leadbetter, Peter Kostis and Sean Foley.
